As the new Pelli Clarke Pelli glass tower went up on the San Antonio skyline, we were approached to create a space that was a warm and inviting counterpoint to the building’s modern severity. This new space is meant to be an inviting “living room” for the building and to reflect a welcoming and warm atmosphere — representative of the character of Texas and San Antonio.
A compromise between the angled glass lines
of the building’s envelope and a more traditional
space had to be struck.
The warm tones and soft grain of cypress lend a relaxed backdrop to the space, while the dark-stained post oak floors give character and weight. Art on the walls was curated from both modern and traditional Texas artists.
